Wolverhampton Wanderers have finalised their squad for the Premier League season – and it includes forgotten man Leo Bonatini.

Premier League clubs submitted their squads following the conclusion of the transfer window earlier this week and Bonatini is a surprise inclusion on Bruno Lage’s list. The Brazilian forward returned to Wolves over the summer after a two-year loan spell with Grasshoppers.

He wasn’t included in the first team’s pre-season plans and was expected to move on ahead of his contract expiring next summer. But Bonatini – who last played for the club in November 2018 – hasn’t been able to secure a move away from Molineux.

His inclusion in the squad isn’t likely to see him return to the fold. Wolves rarely use up all 25 senior places available and have named out of favour stars in years gone by.

Elsewhere, there are no great surprises with Diego Costa added to Lage’s list after completing his free transfer last week. The Spanish striker is one of 17 overseas players registered by Wolves – the maximum number allowed for a Premier League club.

That means Wolves could only add a homegrown player to their squad if they decided to dip into the free agent market again before January. Interestingly, Jason Denayer – who has been most heavily linked with Wolves – would qualify as a homegrown player having been trained at Manchester City for three years before his 21st birthday.

Despite interest in Denayer, Wolves aren’t expected to move for a new defender before the January window opens.

The full Wolves squad is as follows…
