Olivier Giroud has discussed Chelsea’s decision to sack manager Thomas Tuchel and Arsenal’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

The French striker enjoyed spells at both Stamford Bridge and the Emirates before joining Serie A side AC Milan in the summer of 2021.

Giroud spent six season at Arsenal after being signed by Arsene Wenger in 2012, scoring more than 100 goals for the Gunners and helping them win three FA Cup trophies.

The 35-year-old had a more limited role at Chelsea but still contributed to the Blues’ Champions League win in 2021 and Europa League triumph in 2019.

Giroud attended the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday and was asked about Tuchel’s axing as Chelsea boss and Arsenal’s fine start to the season.

Chelsea opted to sack former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel last week after an underwhelming run.

The west Londoners have dropped points in half of their league games so far this season and were beaten 1-0 by Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener last week.

Chelsea’s poor run has seen them fall five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, who won their opening five games of the campaign before losing at Manchester United earlier in the month.

Asked about Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Tuchel, Giroud told Sky Sports News: ‘It’s part of football. It’s sad. I think Thomas has done a great job for Chelsea.’

Turning his attentions to Arsenal, Giroud added: ‘I’ve also been watching my Gooners. I think it’s going to be another interesting year for them.’

Quizzed if he believes Mikel Arteta can guide Arsenal to a top-four finish after last season’s Champions League setback, Giroud added: ‘Yes, definitely. I hope so.’
